The Coastal Carolina University Board of Trustees has established the $5,000 Trustee Award designed to encourage students to accelerate their academic experience, completing what would normally be a four-year degree in just three years. The award is open to all first-time freshmen entering Coastal Carolina University. To qualify for the Trustee Award, the student must meet the following conditions:
1. The student entered Coastal Carolina University as a first-time freshman.
2. All collegiate credits must be earned and paid for at Coastal Carolina University, excluding credits earned in high school or via a CCU-sponsored study abroad program that transferred to the University.
3. The student must complete his or her undergraduate degree within three years (36 consecutive months following initial enrollment).
4. The student must submit the online Trustee Award Application by the last day of the student's first semester.
Trustee Award FAQs
When will I receive the award?
Award certification occurs during the graduation process; the Office of the Registrar identifies all eligible graduation applicants for certification of completion. Following official degree conferral, the Office of Financial Services will notify recipients of the award and request documentation needed to make the disbursement.
Is the award taxable?
Yes, the student will receive either a 1099-MISC or a W-2 form and is responsible for all applicable taxes.
Do I need to be in the Degree in Three program?
No, admittance into the Degree in Three program is not required to be eligible for the Trustee Award; however, it is highly encouraged. Students enrolled in the Degree in Three program are automatically eligible for the Trustee Award. The Degree in Three program offers numerous benefits to students interested in graduating early including dedicated advising services, summer course offerings, early registration, and special interest housing communities geared to facilitate student success.
Are award recipients eligible to wear honor cords at commencement?
Yes, honor cords are available through the Office of the Provost and may be obtained following the eligible student’s completion of a graduation application.
