Greg Ackerman is a senior manager in the Audit Group of WebsterRogers LLP and has over 17 years of public accounting experience, primarily performing financial statement audits and reviews of local companies and organizations. He graduated cum laude from Coastal Carolina University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 1997 and was a member of the CCU Honors Program. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.
Timna Benson grew up in Albany, Ga., and graduated from the University of Georgia. After receiving her master's degree from Coastal Carolina University, she taught at Socastee High School for five years. Her real estate career began in 1992 with MBF Realty, Inc. and continues with the same company, which is now Berkshire Hathaway Myrtle Beach Real Estate. While working for Coca Cola USA in Raleigh, N.C., she met Bill Benson (Conway National Bank since 1985). They were married in 1979 and have two children: Marty, their son, and Katie, their daughter. She enjoys traveling, spending time with Marty, Katie, Billy, and Rigby (their dog), kayaking, walking and volunteering for Freedom Readers (freedomreaders.org).
Dan Butler is a licensed attorney at Butler Law, LLC. His local roots stem back to 1984, when he and his family first moved to Conway. Butler grew up in Conway and received his B.A. in economics from Furman University in 2001, J.D. from Wake Forest University in 2004, and master's degree in taxation from the University of Alabama in 2010. He lives in Myrtle Beach with his beautiful wife and daughter. Prior to forming Butler Law in April 2014, he had an active estate planning, corporate, and litigation practice with the prestigious McNair Law Firm, PA, and had been working out of McNair's law offices in Myrtle Beach since 2004. Butler previously served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Kaye G. Hearn, then chief judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals and now justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. He has served as lead and co-counsel in a broad range of civil litigation cases and has appeared before special referees, masters in equity, and circuit court judges in South Carolina. Butler has also represented individual and corporate clients in South Carolina federal court.
Stephanie M. Foote, Ph.D., is the director of the Master of Science in First-Year Studies, professor of education in the Department of First-Year and Transition Studies, and faculty fellow for High-Impact Practices at Kennesaw State University. Foote earned her B.A. in interdisciplinary studies from Coastal Carolina University in 1997. As an undergraduate at CCU, she served as the editor-in-chief for The Chanticleer, an orientation leader, a peer leader, a student alumni ambassador, a Student Government Association (SGA) representative, and participated in Coastal Productions (the university's student programming board). After graduating from CCU, Foote earned her master's and doctoral degrees from the University of South Carolina. Before joining the KSU faculty in 2011, she worked at Stony Brook University in Student Orientation and Family Programs, and was the director of the Academic Success Center and First-Year Experience at the University of South Carolina Aiken.
Her scholarship and consultative work span a variety of aspects of student development and transition, including: the role of first-year seminars and experiential pedagogy on student engagement in the early college experience, the community college transfer student transition, self-authorship development, engagement and learning in online environments, and high-impact educational practices. Foote is a recipient of the McGraw-Hill Excellence in Teaching First-Year Seminars award, and a past recipient of the NODA Outstanding Research Award for her research on the effects of first-year seminar participation on the experience of students in the early college experience. She is a member of the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition National Advisory Board, a faculty member for the center's Institute on Developing and Sustaining First-Year Seminars, and developed and has taught the online course, Fostering First-Year Student Success for the Center since 2010. Foote is also the editor for the Journal of College Orientation and Transition. She is married to another CCU alumnus, Jason T. Plafcan (1997).
Tabby Shelton grew up in Palm Beach County, Fla. She and her husband Rob moved to Conway in 1994 to attend Coastal Carolina University and eventually decided to make Conway their home. She graduated from CCU in 1999 with a B.A. in interdisciplinary studies and is credited with the creation of Tempo, CCU's student magazine. Upon graduation, she went to work for the City of Conway as the grants and special projects coordinator. In 2001, she moved to Horry County Emergency Management to work with the flood victims of Hurricane Floyd. After the adoption of their twin sons in 2002, she saw a need to create an organization that would assist the foster children and families in our local community. In 2004, Shelton left her position with the county to start Fostering Hope, a nonprofit organization that provides goods and services at no charge to children residing with foster families. Fostering Hope now serves not only children placed in the foster system, but other children in crisis referred by partner agencies. She is married to Rob Shelton, an attorney at the Bellamy Law Firm. Together they have four children: Hayley (22), Shane (18), Stewart (18), and Rani (10).
Rob Spino Jr. is a native of Watertown, Conn., and came to Coastal Carolina University in 1994. After graduating with a B.A. in physical education, he started working for Horry County Schools, but resigned after one year to join the United States Army. From 2002 to 2006, he was assigned to the 1st battalion 75th Ranger Regiment as an airborne ranger. After five combat deployments to Afghanistan and one combat deployment to Iraq, he came home and resumed teaching. Currently, he teaches at Forestbrook Elementary and Myrtle Beach Primary as well as Coastal Carolina. Spino also has a master's degree in education leadership from Coastal Carolina University and is pursuing a Ph.D. in educational leadership from Capella University.
Tim Suggs was born in Horry County, grew up in Murrells Inlet and Garden City, and graduated from Socastee High School and the University of South Carolina, where he earned a B.A. in philosophy. Suggs currently serves in the Office of Solicitor for the 12th Judicial Circuit as the juvenile drug Court coordinator and as a volunteer arbitrator in the Juvenile Arbitration Office. He worked as an agent with the South Carolina Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services until he left to pursue a master's degree in leadership from Columbia International University. He served 12 years as a youth pastor and has also taught a leadership course as a private school teacher. In 2006, he received the "Civil Air Patrol Mentor of the Year" from the United States Air Force. He has served on various boards that include helping young people make positive changes in their lives as he has a passion for investing in young people in order to help them reach their fullest potential. Suggs teaches at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Florence, S.C. He is married and has one son.
