PHIL 335 Military Ethics (3) An exploration of ethical issues as they arise for military personnel and civilian control of military endeavors. Broad approaches to the justification of military force such as just war theory, realism, and pacifism are considered. Detailed exploration of just war theory is possible. Other possible topics include humanitarian intervention, terrorism, drone warfare, and our duties to returning citizens. F, S

What research has led to this request?

With the College's thriving Intelligence and National Security major, it is important for students to face critical questions about when military action can be morally justified (if ever). However, students from other majors like philosophy, political science, and history will benefit from the course content as well. Finally, the issues explored in the class are important for all citizens to consider.
