Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

Math 490 as it currently runs is very content heavy. For years it has been a challenge to get the students through practicing practical job and presentations skills as well as research activities. We are splitting the course into two different semesters: Math 390 for two credits in the spring and Math 490 for one credit in the fall. Math 390 will focus on job searches, resume building, and preparing multiple technical papers and presentations.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

The impact on the program will be negligible because we are simply dividing a three credit course into two semesters (Math 490 (3) --> Math 390 (2) and Math 490 (1)). The impact on the students should be positive. Students will have more time to develop their practical skill and research experience over two semesters.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

None. The credits and work are not changing, but simply being divided over two semesters.
