HIST 379 - World War II America (3 credits) This course examines the history of America in the World War II years. The course explores the relationships between economic turbulence and war, international and domestic politics, and liberalism and conservatism. Topics include war preparation, patriotism, equal opportunity, women and the war effort, racial intolerance, racial liberalism, labor relations, and the memory of the war experience. F, S, M, Su.

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

This course provides students another offering in United States History that is currently not available in the course options. The course is directly related to a faculty member's research and field. Students routinely request more courses that engage America in World War II.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

Could be counted as a United States History course for the History major or minor. It will provide students with another U.S. History upper division history course. It will afford the students the opportunity to learn in depth the history of a pivotal moment in twentieth century U.S. history. This history engages, among other things, the catapulting of the U.S. on the world stage, debates of U.S. racial tolerance, and formation of social welfare state.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

None.

Rotation within existing faculty schedule; alternate with an array of contemporary U.S. history courses.
