Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

Pickleball has become a very popular sport over the past five years, and is enjoyed by adults of all ages. The class was offered in fall 2020 and spring 2021 on an experimental basis and had enrollments of 12 and 7, respectively. The department has the instructor to teach it, the equipment, and the space.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

No direct impact on existing programs, but it will be another option for physical activity for students in any major, as are all PALS classes.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

As mentioned above, the department acquired the necessary equipment (minimal cost) in order to offer it on an experimental basis. The department currently has everything needed to continue offering it in future semesters. Replacement costs will be minimal and "as needed" through departmental lab fees (replace broken balls, paddles, etc.).
