HIST 380 - Cultural Politics in Reagan's America (3 credits) This course examines the convergence of political, economic, and cultural struggles that shaped post-1960s America. Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

This course provides students another offering in United States History that is currently not available in the course options. The course is directly related to a faculty member's research and field. Students routinely request more courses that engage recent American history and ways to better understand America’s cultural divisions.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

Could be counted as a United States History course for the History major or minor. It will provide students with another U.S. History upper division history course. It will afford the students the opportunity to engage critically important recent U.S. history theme: cultural divisions since the 1960s. This history engages, among other things, the catapulting of the U.S. on the world stage, debates of U.S. racial tolerance, and formation of social welfare state.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

None.

Rotation within existing faculty schedule; alternate with an array of contemporary U.S. history courses.
