Explain Two changes are being made: 1) removing the following description from the curriculum section: "Pre-Health Professions Concentration This concentration is for students who are interested in pursuing health professions. Students may take 100-200 level basic science courses (as needed prerequisites for graduate degrees such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician’s assistant, medicine) or take 300-400 level coursework outside of the major to complement their specific career interests or as prerequisites for graduate studies". 2) Editing the Honors Cognate Section: a. Removed the redundant course PUBH 398, as it is now part of the Public Health major required courses. b. As a result, would need to take 12 credits of Honors electives due to the removal of PUBH 398 (that was already a required course). c. Removed the specifications of the types of courses that would count in the Honors area and instead, have indicated students "Complete 12 credits of University Honors courses that are not Public Health foundation courses or required courses." The credits for the cognate option was 18 and it will continue to be 18 credits.

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

When developing Honors Student's program evaluations, we noticed that items were not aligning with the expectation. This way, there are two main types of courses we would like our Honors students to do: 1) complete a research project (that could be used for their thesis) 2) Complete a Public Health course geared towards Honors students; and 3) complete unique Honors courses that are not part of the Public Health major required courses.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

It will clean up the program evaluation to support the Honors Advisor and and Faculty advisors as they build student schedules.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

None

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

There is no program change. This is purely an endeavor to remove an issue of duplication and clean up the how the program evaluation is presented.
