UNIV 698 Project Completion (1 credit) (Prereq: Permission of instructor, admission to a CCU graduate degree program). Activities contributing to the completion of a graduate thesis or dissertation; a culminating report or presentation from an internship, capstone, or creative work; or some other degree requirement. The course is typically taken to complete a remaining requirement and maintain enrollment after all other credit-bearing degree requirements have been completed. Credits do not count toward degree requirements. May be repeated. Pass/Fail grading. F, S. Su.

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

Program coordinators for all graduate programs with a thesis or dissertation option met to identify related procedures and catalog edits. After consulting procedures at other universities, they decided to continue with the project completion model currently used by the Coastal Marine and Wetland Studies program (CMWS 702). But rather than have each program create a separate project completion course, the decision was to create a central UNIV project completion course to be used in all graduate programs as needed.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

It creates a mechanism for students with a remaining non-credit degree requirement, such as completion of a thesis and thesis defense, to maintain enrollment in the program as they continue to work toward completion of their degree after all other requirements have been completed.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

None

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

The students is enrolled to continue to do the work they are planning to do anyway. The course does not have associated salary or count toward paid teaching load for the instructor.
