EDLL 656: Cultural and Linguistic Diversity for ESOL Educators. (3) (=EDLL 456) This course is designed to improve the educator’s understanding of students with diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The course focuses on cultural and linguistic diversity and identity with an emphasis on the following topics: culturally responsive learning environment, cultural bias, socio-economic diversity, and the home-school connection. Practicum experiences required. (F)

This course is now listed in the updated SC DOE certification requirements.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

This course will replace EDLL 655 Emergent Bilinguals and Special Education which is no longer accepted as an elective by the SC DOE for the ESOL add-on certification.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

None

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

It will replace a previously required course. Therefore, it will not increase the number of courses needing taught.
