Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

ENGR 203: Originally, ENGR 203 Professionalism and Pathways was an elective which could complete 3 credit hours of the required 7 credit hours of the Professional Enhancement electives. However, we feel that ENGR 203 is a necessary and valuable course for engineering majors to take. Therefore, we wish to make ENGR 203 a required course. ENGR 495: In order for the office of the Registrar to correctly program the requirements for ENGR 495 into the program evaluation, we needed to make some changes to the way ENGR 495 was listed in the curriculum. Specifically, having 3 credit hours of ENGR 495 in the Major requirements, and then another 0-4 credit hours of ENGR 495 in the Professional Enhancements requirement would not be programmable. Based on the Registrar's recommendation, we have moved the ENGR 495 requirement into the Professional Electives in order to make the programming easier. Note this does not impact the requirements of the program; it is simply an editorial change. Given the swap of ENGR 203 and ENGR 495 between Professional Enhancement and Major requirements, the net effect in credit hours is zero since both are 3 credit hour courses.

The changes are essentially editorial changes to the program.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

This courses will be taught by a faculty member and will count toward their normal teaching load. There will be no additional costs.
