Explain Students would have to select two courses (6 credits) from a specific group of public health courses relevant to the public health discipline (Public Health Electives (6 credits)). These courses that they must select from are: • PUBH 320 - Public Health Policy and Advocacy (3 credits) • P UBH 333 - Environmental Health (3 credits) • PUBH 350 - Community Health Promotion Strategies (3 credits) • PUBH 375 - Global Health Perspectives (3 credits) • PUBH 380 - Essentials of the U.S. Health Care System (3 credits) • PUBH 388 - Needs Assessment and Program Planning (3 credits) • PUBH 398 - Public Health Research and Evaluation Methods (3 credits) • PUBH 403 - Leadership in the Health Professions (3 credits) • PUBH 410 - Epidemiology (3 credits) All 300 - 400 level Public health courses, including those that used to be required and those not selected above from the Public Health Electives (6 credits), will be available for selections for up to 6 credits of electives with the option to select up to 6 credits from other courses that are non-pubic health related for the section labeled Electives (9-10 credits).

Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

The public health minor is revised to reflect the industry standard for public health minor. The previous iteration had more of a health promotion/community heath leaning. This version requires that students take two of the major public health courses as well as options from across campus that provide complementary instruction for the minor. The form needed to be updated as several new classes have been developed, which are interesting additions to the minor.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

None. There are adjustments to the minor so that it is more reflective of a public health minor. Courses that were generally included from other majors will remain. Other courses that have been added were recommended by the program heads or are good additions to the public health discipline.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

There are no additional financial costs to the requests as it is a restructuring of a current minor.

If NO change in cost is anticipated, how is this possible?

No additional costs are anticipated because this is the restructuring of a current minor. Faculty who are already currently teaching in the minor would continue to teach courses in the minor.
