Justification For Request

What research has led to this request?

The program faculty reviewed all courses in the MEd Educational Leadership program and determined the course addressing curriculum and instruction needed to be taught from the perspective of school leaders and how they influence curriculum and instruction. Of Praxis II completers (N=20) in 20-21 students scored lower in the areas of Instructional Leaders with 23 raw points available and a mean score of 17 as well as Organizational Leaders with 12 raw points available and a mean score of 8. Both of these content areas are addressed in the new course which focuses on principals as instructional and organizational leaders impacting curriculum and instructional development and assessment.

What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?

This course should have a positive impact on students preparing to be school principals as it directly impacts their knowledge as future school leaders and instructional leaders.

What financial costs are associated with this request?

This should be cost-neutral based on faculty in Ed Leadership having previously taught this course as part of their load.
