CCU earns national recognition for financial reporting

Coastal Carolina University has been awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, a national award given by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its 2017 comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR).

According to GFOA, the Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. As the individual primarily responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR, Greg Thompson, CCU’s associate vice president of finance and controller, received an Award of Financial Reporting Achievement.

“This national recognition reflects the careful attention to accuracy and transparency that Coastal Carolina University strives for in all its financial operations,” said CCU President David A. DeCenzo.

The award letter states that Coastal’s CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.

The GFOA is a nonprofit association serving some 19,000 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago and Washington, D.C.
