CCU only S.C. institution on affordable military-friendly online colleges list

Last year a Purple Heart University designation, this year a place among the top affordable military-friendly online colleges. Coastal Carolina University’s commitment to educating and supporting veterans continues to expand its reach and impact.

SR Education Group, an education research publisher founded in 2004, has released its 2018 list of Most Affordable Military-Friendly Online Colleges, and CCU is one of 60 colleges that made the cut, the only qualifying institution in South Carolina to do so.

“Earning these accolades proves just how much Coastal Carolina University is invested in its military connected students,” says Gregory Nance, the military funding coordinator at CCU.

More veterans have the opportunity to attend college today than ever before, says Nance, due to programs like the Post 9/11 GI Bill. But active duty members of the military have limited options to where they can study.

“It seems only right to be able to offer those military connected students who are stationed far away from our campus the same opportunity to earn their degree from CCU while still having access to the same resources and benefits that our resident military connected students have,” he says.

The online courses and programs at CCU offer the same faculty and content as campus-based courses and are fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.

Current CCU online undergraduate programs include a B.S. in health administration, a B.S.B.A. in Hospitality, Resort and Tourism Management, a B.S.B.A. in marketing, and a certificate in geospatial technologies.

Graduate programs include an MBA, an M.S. in information systems technology, an Ed.S. or M.Ed. in instructional technology, an M.Ed. in literacy or special education, or certificates in business foundations, online teaching and training, or English as a second language.

“Coastal Carolina University strives to offer rigorous, interactive online courses and programs for our students, with a particular emphasis on ensuring that students have the ability to complete classwork with enhanced flexibility through the use of online technologies,” says Sherri Restauri, director of the Coastal Office of Online Learning at CCU. “For our military students, we’re excited to offer more than 350 courses in our spring and fall terms, as well as many courses in our summer terms, with flexible enrollment options to meet their schedules.”

CCU has also been ranked by GI Jobs as a Military-Friendly School for eight consecutive years and currently holds a bronze rating.

In November 2017, Coastal was designated a Purple Heart University by the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and in April 2016, CCU became the only university in the state to install a permanent Missing Man Chair of Honor at one of its facilities. That chair is located in Springs Brooks Stadium.
