The University welcomes 14 new staff members to Teal Nation

Among the 14 additions to Teal Nation this month are two alumni, an EMT, and a newlywed. They join departments from Public Safety to University Housing to Counseling Services and beyond.

Crystal Field joins the Department of Public Safety as a dispatcher. She is a certfied EMT and has worked as a private investigator and volunteer firefighter. She enjoys pizza and painting and is originally from Chatham, Va.

Kevin Fleming, originally from Poughkeepsie, N.Y., joins the plumbing department of facilities.

Clarisa Hamel is a custodian. She is originally from Statesville, N.C., and enjoys spending time with her family and pizza and hot sauce.

Tracy Hardee graduated from CCU and rejoins Teal Nation as a teacher with the Early Childhood Development and Education Center. She loves sushi, Crossfit and traveling. She is a Myrtle Beach native and is married to Travis. "I'm excited to be a part of working at my alma mater and I look forward to making new connections!" she said.

Kenneth Hermes joins the Department of Public Safety as a security officer. He likes pizza, fishing and karaoke and is originally from Chicago. He is a retired police officer who enjoys riding his motorcycle.

Amber Higgs is a financial aid counselor with the Office of Financial Aid. Among her enjoyments are Mexican food, relaxing on the beach, listening to live music and spending time with her dogs.

Jessica K. Hughes graduated from CCU in 2017. She is back at Coastal in the Office of Student Accounts as a specialist, and her boyfriend Robbie Bell works at CCU, too. "As a student, I truly loved my time here, so I made it my goal to end back up here as an employee to give back to the University that gave so much to me," she said.

Alexis McLeod is a dispatcher with the Department of Public Safety. She is currently in the criminal justice program at Horry-Georgetown Technical College, and her main focus is how she can make a difference. She loves macaroni and cheese and reading, and she is originally from Ash, N.C.

Jay Monday joins the grounds staff under supervisor Tim Shank.

Kara Schultz is the director of advising and student support for the Wall College of Business. She is originally from Cassatt, S.C., and loves macaroni and cheese.

William Taylor is a community coordinator in University Housing from Wilmington, N.C. He loves pizza, traveling, sports and video games. He recently got married, and says he chose CCU because of the great community and the opportunity to help students succeed.

Sitonja Valenzuela joins the Counseling Services team as a mental health practitioner. She is from Fayetteville, N.C., and values the relationships she develops with people. Things she loves: "all things that represent diversity and culture; inspiring people; soul food; traveling; shopping; and attending concerts!"

William Weimmer is a postal specialist with Postal Services. He loves Italian food, and is originally from Brooklyn, N.Y. He is a musician/singer/songwriter and also a baseball historian. He enjoys making people laugh.
