Holley Tankersley moves to Office of the Provost as associate provost for strategy and development

When Sallie Clarkson announced her intention to retire at the end of this calendar year, Holley Tankersley was promoted to the role of Interim Associate Provost for Strategic Initiatives and Faculty and Staff Development (Associate Provost for Strategy and Development for short).

Effective July 1, 2019, Tankersley will take on a new structure of the position as the operations of the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President are reorganized. There will also be shifting of some functions to David Yancey and Jim Solazzo in the fall.

The general duties of Tankersley's new role include:

• Assist the provost with development and execution of long-term strategy for academic innovation and excellence that enhances the University’s mission and brings significant potential benefits to the University. Align efforts with the University Strategic Plan.
• Foster an institutionwide climate of engagement, collaboration, innovation and inclusion in support of institutional and academic excellence.
• Ensure policy alignment and cohesion to support short- and long-term strategic initiatives.
• Utilize research, data analysis, and best practices in higher education to inform and guide policy, processes and procedures, and strategic development.
• Maintain open and productive lines of communication with deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff. Facilitate dialogue and interaction between the Provost’s Office and faculty and staff. Encourage and assist with community building among faculty and staff. Serve as an information resource for faculty, staff, and administrators.
• Work effectively within a culture of shared governance to ensure timely response to faculty and staff questions, concerns, ideas, and proposals.
• Develop and manage strategic initiatives and programs that connect the University with local, state, and regional communities and partners.
• Develop and support programs to ensure that faculty are successful in their teaching, scholarly, and leadership endeavors, and that staff are successful in their professional and leadership endeavors. Duties include:
      o Work closely with deans, associate deans, and department chairs in matters related to faculty personnel and academic policies.
      o Work collaboratively with appropriate units to provide effective programming, services, and access to resources for faculty and staff across all ranks.
      o Foster recognition of faculty and staff internally, nationally, and internationally for teaching, scholarship, and leadership and community engagement.
      o Ensure the recruitment, development, and retention of a diverse and talented faculty and staff, including providing support and oversight for processes related to faculty and staff advancement.
      o Accelerate internal development of faculty leaders and maximize institutional effectiveness.
