Donations still being accepted for Faculty and Staff Benevolence Fund

After the end of an academic year rocked by the catastrophic damages of Hurricane Florence in September 2018, the Faculty and Staff Benevolence Fund is still accepting contributions to help members of our community get back on their feet. While some are still picking up the pieces nine months later, members of the CCU community continue to face a variety of unforseen struggles that can put financial, emotional and physical restraints on day-to-day life.

The Faculty and Staff Benevolence Fund provides a way for fellow faculty and staff members of Coastal to contribute financial support for those in need of financial help. There are two options for giving, including a one-time contribution or a payroll deduction. The payroll deduction option allows for employees to choose for a specific amount to be taken out of their semimonthly paycheck, some as little as $2 every check. Contributions are tax-deductible.

BJ Landrum, vice president of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity, encourages all employees to support the Faculty and Staff Benevolence Fund.

“Unexpected and difficult circumstances affect almost everyone at some point in their lives," she said. "The beauty of the Benevolence Fund is that even small donations, over time, could add up to a substantial amount of money. We sincerely want to help our friends and colleagues in a significant way when adversity strikes. Our location offers beautiful weather and delightful diversions – most of the time. But severe weather conditions as well as medical and other emergencies can result in unanticipated property damage and physical and emotional harm. An unforeseen illness or accident can cause a family great financial hardship. The Benevolence Fund provides a tangible way for University employees to help each other in times of trouble.”
