It's Resident Assistant recruiting time

University Housing is recruiting Resident Assistants (RA) for the 2011-2012 academic year. The RA recruitment theme this year is “BE the Change.” Faculty and staff are invited to nominate CCU students you feel may be qualified for an RA position.

RAs play a critical role in building community within the residence halls, aiding in the transition to college, and helping connect residents to campus resources. Not only are these students providing valuable service to their community, they also develop many leadership skills and abilities that will serve them well beyond CCU.

University Housing asks that you take a few minutes to identify current students who would make strong RA candidates. Qualities of strong candidates include:
* attentiveness toward others
* trustworthiness
* creativity and initiative in bringing people together
* effective communication skills
* ability to recognize and appreciate differences
* ability to work with individuals and groups
* respect for confidentiality
* ability to identify and address needs
* willingness to learn and grow
* balance of conviction and flexibility
* capacity to balance academics, social and staff commitments

If you know students who you feel have the leadership potential to be an RA, please have them complete an RA application packet and submit it to the University Housing office in Waccamaw Hall by 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21.

Also, feel free to refer students to Laura Arroyo, area director of University Housing (larroyo@coastal.edu, 843-349-6407) for a special nomination process. (Please send their name and e-mail address for point of contact.) Students who are nominated will be notified and personally invited to attend an information session to learn more about the RA role. ALL nominations are greatly appreciated, so please take a few minutes to send names and e-mail addresses today.
