Student Recreation and Convocation Center scheduled for 2012 completion

Coastal Carolina University Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek announced the new Student Recreation and Convocation Center, currently under construction, will not be completed in time for the start of 2011-12 basketball season. The Department, however, still hopes to use the facility at some point during the 2011-12 season.

"Early indications were that we could be in the Student Recreation and Convocation Center in mid-November," Yurachek said. "However, the scope and magnitude of this project is such that our initial goal will no longer be a reality for 2011."

Coastal Carolina men's basketball team has a contract to host Southeastern Conference member Louisiana State in mid-November.

"There has been nothing to suggest that the upcoming LSU game will not be played as scheduled," Yurachek said. "Coastal Carolina has even begun preliminary talks with the Big South Conference to have the game played on ESPN as part of the network's annual 24 hours of basketball."

Coastal Carolina Department of Athletics will send out renewals for basketball season tickets for the 2011-2012 season beginning in early August. All current season ticket holders will have the first opportunity to renew their seats in Kimbel Arena, including the game versus LSU. Current season ticket holders will also have the first opportunity to purchase the seats of their choice for any games played in the Student Recreation and Convocation Center in 2012.

Coastal Carolina Athletics will continue its ongoing marketing efforts to identify future season ticket customers for when the new Convocation Center does open in 2012.

Current season ticket holders and those who wish to become season ticket holders in the expanded seating capacity of the new facility should visit www.GoCCUSports.com and click "The List " to ensure a place in the new Student Recreation and Convocation Center.
