Student joins local nonprofit board

Psychology student Adam Child is a new junior board member of the First Book-Horry County Local Advisory Board.

The mission of the national nonprofit is to raise money to buy books for children in the area who do not own books. 

"I have always been passionate about literacy," says Child, who would like to see more students getting involved with volunteerism at the community level.

The board recently held a First Book Celebration with the Boys and Girls Club of the Grand Strand, a group that was awarded a grant and books for its literacy program.
