Jadallah to present research paper at Oxford

Edward Jadallah, interim dean of the Spadoni College of Education, has been invited to present his research on the relationship of pre-service teachers’ conceptual understandings and experiential learning at a research symposium Oct. 23-25 at the University of Oxford, England. The Research Symposium will be sponsored by the Society for Educational Studies and the Oxford Centre for Sociocultural and Activity Theory Research.

Jadallah’s paper, "Pre-service Teachers’ Conceptual Understandings and Reasoning for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Decisions," was one of only 35 papers accepted for presentation following an international call directed through the Oxford Centre and the American Educational Research Association (AERA).

The research symposium proposes to confront the current educational policy and research assertion that teachers learn primarily "from experience." The invited papers will address the meaning of this assertion by examining two specific questions: What and how do teachers learn from experience? And how are we to understand experience and experiential learning in professional education?
