Construction to start soon on Scholars Academy

You may have noticed activity in the parking lot area between Kingston and Baxley halls, site of the new freestanding Scholars Academy. Horry County Schools began work on the early site package on Dec. 17, and construction is slated to start in February.

It is anticipated that the structure will be finished in time for Scholars Academy students to move from their current location in Baxley Hall to the new building in January 2014.

The Scholars Academy was established in 2003 through a partnership between Horry County Schools and Coastal Carolina University to provide advanced learners with a quality education in a supportive learning environment. Its mission is to educate these students at the rate and with the level of academic rigor commensurate with their abilities so that they graduate as confident, responsible, lifelong learners who are prepared to succeed in higher education and in the world beyond. Students graduate with a high school diploma and as much as two years of college course credits.
