Feel the Teal focuses on civility

Coastal Carolina University is continuing its emphasis on how we treat one another through our Feel the Teal Service Excellence Initiative. The focus of the most recent Feel The Teal training, which was rolled out in late February, is Campus Civility.

Campus Civility calls for a conscious awareness of the impact our attitudes, actions, words and behaviors can have on someone else. This training defines civility and addresses minor, middle of the road and major civility issues that have the potential to impact our University. Civility entails more than simply saying “please” and “thank you” and opening doors for one another. It means applying the values and principles of respect and civility in our everyday service interactions, whether with students or colleagues.

As much as this sounds like common sense, we live in a time where there is a perceived decline in civility standards and norms. We cannot succumb to this perception. Instead, we must instead demonstrate behaviors that create a positive environment in which to learn and work. We will all benefit from such a focus and culture.

Coastal Carolina University aspires to be on the forefront of issues that affect our campus community. Our goal is to provide a culture and climate that promotes fairness, care and concern. CCU proudly supports an inclusive, respectful environment where all of our employees, students, visitors and community feel welcome – and Feel the Teal!

All the best,

David A. DeCenzo, Ph.D.
