Big Read Committee is looking for volunteers

"Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Made a Nation" by John Carlin has been chosen as the required summer reading for all incoming 2013-2014 freshmen.

Coastal Carolina University's Big Read committee and University College are looking for assistants to lead small groups on Sunday, Aug. 17, during the CINO TIE events.

During CINO TIE, formerly known as Welcome Week, and directly after New Student Convocation, small group discussion sessions of 50 minutes will be held with incoming first-year students.

In order to keep these groups small, the committee is looking for 60 volunteers to assist in offering these sessions.

Last year was a success due to the large number of volunteers who stepped up to help from across campus. Every academic college was represented as well as the board of trustees and most administrative offices.

Each facilitator will be provided with a copy of the book, possible discussion questions and other materials. Due to the nature of this particular book, many multimedia materials are available for use as well.

If you are interested in volunteering as a facilitator of the small group Big Read discussions, contact Brianne Parker, chair of the Big Read Committee, at bparker2@coastal.edu or 843-349-6536.
