New academic building planned

A new academic building is to be added between the E. Craig Wall Sr. College of Business Administration and the Swain Science Center. It is proposed to be a replica of Brittain Hall with three stories, 100 faculty offices, classrooms, a computer area and an area for food service. The structure will be around 52,000 square feet, which means that the current parking lots will be demolished, though some faculty parking will be available in front of the structure.

Chairman of the selection committee Mark Avant says the academic areas to be housed in the building will be determined soon.

Garvin Design Group has been selected as the architect, and an initial programming committee meeting is scheduled in the near future. During the meeting, final building plans will be discussed and the projected manager will be determined.
