Updates on Update on construction projects on campus

Here are some updates on various campus contruction projects from Rein Mungo, interim director of Facilities Planning and Management.

• The new Food Service Catering Building, located adjacent to the Williams Brice Recreation Center, is open for business Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the campus community. Student athletes are served Tuesday through Thursday from 6 to 10:30 p.m.

 Healthier food selections are on the menu and lunch is $5. A typical meal might look like this:
*Cobb salad
*Chipotle pork wrap
*Baked Sweet potato
*Steamed Carrots
*Mashed potatoes
*Whole wheat pasta with marinara

During the remaining hours, the staff will concentrate on catered events each day on campus.

• Atheneum Hall is about 90 percent finished. “We are waiting on the state fire marshall to complete the final review of the plans with some changes we had to make,” says Rein Mungo, director of facilties. “Then we will have an inspection by the Office of the State Engineer for substantial completion, and then the final completion based on some final punch list items being completed.”

This building should be completed by the end of April.

• Construction has begun on the expansion of Hicks Dining Hall. All the utilities are in the ground now and the concrete slab has been poured. “We should begin to see some steel going up and some block work starting to take place next week,” says Mungo.
