Madden appointed new Ombuds

Steve Madden has been appointed the new Ombudsman at Coastal Carolina University, effective July 1.

The former chair of the Department of Communication, Languages and Culture, Madden joined the faculty in 2007. He earned a bachelor's degree in mass communication from the University of South Florida, a master's degree in conflict management and training and development from New Mexico State University and a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Southern Mississippi.

Madden worked for NBC TV and for radio stations in Fairbanks, Ala. He also spent 10 years at Clemson University helping to build a communication program as well as two years at Appalachian State University revising the organizational communication concentration.

Charmaine Tomczyk, the current Ombuds, will assist with the transition.
