Social Media announces summer campaign

With the summer season at Coastal Carolina almost upon us, some seasonal changes occur on campus. Employee hours are tweaked, parking spots open up and student activity dies down. Another change involves our social media coverage. With a good portion of our almost 10,000 students elsewhere for the summer, our prime focus is no longer readily available on Prince Lawn. So, instead of capturing students on our turf, we ask them to help us cover them on theirs.

Recently, #CCUSocialMedia announced the Teal-Shaded Summer campaign. Inspired by last summer’s award-winning #CCUSA campaign, this season’s program borrows some of its elements and also brings in a fresh dynamic.
Starting May 25, a Coastal student will be featured each day on our social media outlets. Sounds standard, right? But come that last week in May, the students featured will be far away from campus while sporting a fun CCU accessory that will grab your attention.

Perhaps our most popular promotional item is our Chauncey sunglasses. You put them on and almost feel like the big rooster yourself. The 50 students participating in the Teal-Shaded Summer initiative each received a pair of these spectacles. Once they leave the area, they will slide the shades on and snap a photo of where they are spending the summer. They will then send us the images and wait for the appointed date when our social media channels will feature their summer exploits.

How did these students get chosen? They were fast. We announced the campaign details on our social media channels and opened up participation to the first 50 students who sent an email to the Teal-Shaded Summer address requesting inclusion. It didn’t take long to fill all spots. Now the fun part starts as the content begins to roll in.
Student images will run from May 25 through the end of July. Later this summer, we will offer an opportunity for alumni to participate during the month of August.

Please stay with #CCUSocialMedia over the next few months. While the content will vary, its quality will not.
