CCU's tree lighting is big hit

Around 250 people attended Coastal Carolina University's annual holiday lighting on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Atheneum. Faculty, staff and families watched as the Coastal Inspirational Ambassadors gospel choir kicked off the event with upbeat holiday songs.

The kids enjoyed decorating gingerbread men, creating "reindeer food," writing letters to Santa, riding the train and taking pictures at the holiday-themed photo booth. With a plethora of food options such as corndogs, barbecue meatballs, butternut squash soup, vegetable spring rolls, reindeer cookies and s’mores, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

At 5:30 p.m., everyone helped CCU President David A. DeCenzo and Chauncey count down from five to create some holiday magic in the park. The trees illuminated, and Santa arrived on a vintage firetruck to take photos and chat with the kids about what they wanted for Christmas. It was truly a special evening for the Coastal community filled with holiday cheer and fun for all.
