Goodwins celebrate a West Point graduate

John "Andrew" Goodwin graduated from West Point, the U.S. Military Academy, on May 22. He also shook the hand of commencement speaker President Barack Obama, along with the other 1,001 graduates.

He is the son of John and Cathy Goodwin. Andrew majored in French and will pursue his chosen branch of military intelligence. He is currently working at West Point with cadet training, but will report to Fort Huachuca in Arizona for military intelligence professional training in August. He will then be stationed at Fort Bliss, near El Paso, Texas.

Andrew graduated with an international bachalaureate diploma at Socastee High School in 2006 and earned his Eagle Scout that same year. He was on the track team and swim team at SHS.

Family members attending graduation were John (CCU professor of chemistry), Cathy (collection management librarian in Kimbel), sister Faye, (who attends Carolina Forest High School). Younger brother, Sam, who lives in New Mexico, was not able to attend.

The Goodwins live in Conway.
