Visual art students to exhibit watercolors

Coastal Carolina University painting students have been invited to exhibit their watercolor paintings simultaneously with the 39th Annual South Carolina Watermedia Society Exhibition to be held Oct. 8 through Nov. 27 at the Franklin G. Burroughs - Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum in Myrtle Beach.

Nine visual arts students will exhibit their watercolor paintings created as intermediate and advanced painters during the 2016 fall semester. The watercolor paintings chosen for exhibition embrace a variety of styles including realism, surrealism, abstraction and comic style. The painters were given an opportunity to create a series of paintings investigating a theme and/or concept. Each student’s artistic development was paramount during the semester’s work and emphasis was given to the main components of concept development, technical skills and creative investigation. The diversity of influences stretched from tattoo art, comics, beauty, emotion, portraiture, classic cars, and landscape to water-media display.

The following students’ paintings were chosen by professor Maura Kenny for this student exhibition: Ashley Arakas, Sophie Brunette, Nick Carmicheal, Shawn Doublet, Katie Farrelly, Morgan Hedgecock, Rebecca Jolly, Kelsey Paparo and Megan Runyon.
