I Spy: Scott Gallimore grows the CINO card
Coastal Carolina University alumnus Scott Gallimore said he never pictured himself working in the world of information technology, but he has made it his mission to make the CINO Card Office the best it can be.
After many childhood Myrtle Beach vacations, Gallimore discovered CCU and decided to attend following his high school graduation. He moved from Georgetown, Ohio, to South Carolina in 1999 and never looked back.
He graduated with a degree in philosophy in 2005 and began working as the first assistant director for CCU’s Jackson Family Center for Ethics and Values. Gallimore played a major part in recruiting the first class of Jackson Scholars, helped with budgeting and worked closely with the center’s board of directors.
After a year of working at CCU, he wanted to try something different and took a position as executive director of the Conway city of character initiative in 2006. The focus of the project was persuading the community to adopt and promote character education through various programs. Gallimore helped promote character and values throughout the community by working in schools and developing community programs.
He eventually came back to CCU and applied the intensive logic skills he learned as a philosophy major to help him earn a second degree in computer science.
When Gallimore began working as the CINO card coordinator in 2009, the card had minimal features. Since that time, he has added door access to more than 500 doors around campus, meal plan access, and he took CINO Cash out into the community. Students can now dine on campus or off using their CINO Cash. Gallimore has been a part of campus for more than a decade now and has devoted himself to making the CINO card as efficient as possible for students, faculty and staff.
Gallimore highly values the knowledge he gained as a student at CCU and said, “College should be about growth and making the world a better place, not just getting a job."
In recognition of his CINO Card accomplishments, Gallimore was recently selected to be in the inaugural class of the National Association of Campus Card Users (NACCU) Standard and Guidelines (SAGs) program. He is one of only 12 card specialists from universities across the country to participate in this specialized course. The group will create operating principles and standards for all card offices.
Steve Harrison, senior director for University Housing, described Gallimore as a deep thinker who really takes the time to figure out how he can make the CINO Card more beneficial for student and faculty use. “He’s got so much potential, and he has a great understanding of what the CINO Card office can be.”
Outside of work, Gallimore likes to stay active. He coached high school soccer at Carolina Forest High School for seven years and now plays on his own time for fun. He also enjoys playing basketball and riding his bike. Gallimore is truly an outdoor enthusiast. He loves going on backpacking trips, whether it is just a weekend getaway or a full vacation. One of his favorite trips was to Mount Sterling in the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. He usually has his 8-year-old boxer, Tiger, by his side. Tiger has his own backpack filled with his food, orange parka and a tarp for shelter. He carries this special green pack on all their trips.
