CCU president announces administrative changes

Effective July 1, Provost Ralph Byington will supervise a new auxiliary unit that will be responsible for all facility and maintenance functions of the University. This new unit will be headed by Steve Harrison with the title of Vice President Auxiliary Enterprises (VPAE). Harrison will coordinate and supervise student/administrative services to include University Housing, Dining, Parking and Transportation Services, Facilities (custodial services, grounds, buildings, and supply warehouse), CINO Card Office, and additional auxiliary services as applicable. He will also oversee business services (postal services, vending and the bookstore) and the golf course and athletic grounds. Responsible for a wide variety of student-centered and public-facing direct care and essential services, Harrison will be responsible for cultivating relationships with a wide variety of campus stakeholders to ensure successful fiscal operations, facilities management, with high impact service excellence. He will direct the hiring, training and management of the relevant classified, time-limited and temporary staff in additional to student employees through appropriate managers and supervisors. This position reports to the provost/executive vice -resident and serves on the executive council.
 
Sallie Clarkson will assume the duties of Associate Provost for Operations (APO). She will serve as the director of project planning and implementation. Her duties include reviewing, approving and/or submitting all paperwork requiring Provost/EVP approval. Clarkson will also track all hiring and vacancies for faculty and staff hires, for all areas reporting to the provost/EVP, in collaboration with the Department of Human Resources and Finance. She will also review best practices for a variety of areas such as testing centers, campus surplus, university archives, lab fee policies, etc.  In addition, she will oversee the Horry County Archives Center, Academic Testing and Facilities (planning and management, mechanical maintenance and repairs, and renovations). She will coordinate the use of all academic and support buildings and other space usage issues as well as coordination with Disability Services and liaison with Scholars Academy. This position reports to the provost/executive vice president and serves on the executive council.
 
Travis Overton
is now Vice President for Executive Initiatives/Chief of Staff. As part of the recent realignment, the executive initiatives division has been developed to encompass the chief diversity and inclusion officer position, the Dean of Students Office, Title IX and CHANT411. To continue the important work of our strategic plan throughout the University, the Office of Multicultural Student Services will become part of the portfolio of the chief diversity and inclusion officer. Overton will provide strategic direction as the division consistently evaluates opportunities for development within the University community and fosters an environment of mutual support and respect for all.  In addition, Overton will assist the president in several areas to ensure effective and efficient operations and to represent the president especially community activities. In this capacity, he will develop and coordinate special projects and will often assist in questions, concerns, issues and requests on the president’s behalf. Overton will continue to serve on the President’s Council.
