Editor's note: A new look for the Atheneum
by Melanie Smith
Hello fellow Chanticleers,
I hope you have been enjoying the new format of the Atheneum! Our team at the Office of University Marketing and Communication is eager to continue to build on this new webpage. In this edition, you’ll notice a few different things in comparison to what the Atheneum used to look like. I’ll walk you through what we changed, what we kept the same, and what the opportunities are for additional sections in the future.
All feature articles that were normally in blocks at the top of the page are now featured in a carousel format, still at the top of the webpage. You may click the arrows to see the featured articles and a brief description of each. These stories are our longer, story-based pieces. If you have a newsworthy idea for a feature story, email your idea to ccustory@coastal.edu.
Below the carousel, you will see several blocks. Currently, we have five sections set up to mirror previous sections from the last Atheneum: New Faces, New Places; Chauncey’s Champion; Featured News; Need to Know, Want to Know; and What’s Changing at CCU. Click on the block and you'll see a list of articles to read or videos to view.
In New Faces, New Places, you’ll find information about new employees joining the CCU family. This encompasses short bios and headshots from New Employee Orientation every month.
Chauncey’s Champion will include a story on the featured Chauncey’s Champion of the month, similar to the last newsletter. This edition features two Chauncey's Champions: the faculty and staff outstanding champions awarded at the State Service Awards in May.
Featured News is where you’ll find updated news releases about important happenings on campus. The news releases found on Coastal Now are also living on this site to be even more accessible.
Need to Know, Want to Know is the new version of Something to Talk About. Anything you think is important for faculty and staff to know, but isn’t necessarily enough for a longer written piece, is housed here. This includes some of our featured CCU YouTube video pieces as well. This section is great for learning about things happening on campus you may not be aware of, hearing good news of CCU accomplishments, and getting to know your fellow faculty, staff and students.
What’s Changing at CCU includes information on exactly that: the transitions and changes on CCU’s campus. The last year has brought a wave of new administrators, changes in positions, and new department names and responsibilities. This section is your one-stop shop for all information regarding updates on what’s changed here on campus.
Below the section blocks, you’ll find events occurring that are posted to the University calendar.
Below that is the featured video of the newsletter. This will change periodically through the month as more videos are created that highlight important campus events. Take a few minutes and watch a story come to life visually.
Lastly, our Twitter feed is linked with the option to scroll through and get up-to-date on what is happening via social media.
We will be making necessary tweaks and changes as time goes on, but we are excited to provide you with a new and improved Atheneum as the academic year begins. If you have story ideas, feedback or just want to say hello, my email is msmith18@coastal.edu. I would love to hear from you!
Thank you for taking the time to read the Atheneum, and have a fantastic beginning of the fall semester. Go Chants!
