What's Changing at CCU: August Edition

This past summer saw quite a lot of change at the University in varying degrees, from departmental name changes to a new, interim provost. If you weren’t able to keep up with all the emails that communicated the various changes over the past few months, this snapshot should get you mostly up to speed.
Provost and Executive Vice President Ralph Byington resigned his position on May 11, 2019. The University community was given the opportunity to weigh in on interim provost candidates, and Dan Ennis, former dean of the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts, was named interim provost and vice president for academic affairs on May 28. The executive vice president position has been dissolved.
Other personnel changes related to this appointment include:
- David Frost is now senior vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer.
- Debbie Conner is now vice president for student affairs.
- Peter Paquette is now associate vice president for student affairs and dean of students.
- Whitney Comer is now assistant vice president for student life.
- Amanda Craddock is now associate provost for enrollment management.
- Atiya Stokes-Brown is now vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion.
Changed reporting structures include:
- The CFO reports directly to the president. Auxiliary Enterprises and Facilities, Planning and Management report to the CFO.
- The vice president for student affairs reports directly to the president.
- The Department of Public Safety reports directly to the president.
- The associate provost for enrollment management reports to the interim provost.
- The vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion reports to the president and joins the President’s Council.
- Information Technology Services, Scheduling and Event Services, and Special Events all report to the chief of staff.
Not directly related to these changes but still relevant:
- Claudia Bornholdt joined the University on July 1 as the new dean of the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. (See the featured story in this newsletter to get to know her a little better.)
- Easton Selby joined the dean’s office in humanities as an associate dean.
- Holley Tankserley joined the provost’s office as associate provost for strategy and development.
- Jamie Bilella has been named the new vice president of the Office of University Marketing and Communication. He starts Sept. 2, 2019.
- Carlos Johnson, a former board of trustees member, has been named senior vice president/University counsel and will supervise Human Resources and Equal Opportunity, Risk Management, and University Compliance.
What’s in a name?
- Effective July 1, 2019:
- The Office of University Communication is the Office of University Marketing and Communication.
- The Office of Campus Life and Student Engagement is Student Affairs.
- The College of Science is the Gupta College of Science.
Who’s moving where?
- Accessibility and Disability Services, formerly in Kearns Hall, has moved to Laurel Hall.
- The Student Success Center has expanded in Kearns Hall as part of a renovation of that building to better serve the HTC Honors College.
- The Williams-Brice building renovations are complete, and the building is open.
