ARA 120 Beginning Arabic II (3 credits) (prerequisite: ARA 110) This course continues the development of basic communicative language skills including reading, writing, speaking, and listening in Modern Standard Arabic with attention given to deviations and intelligibility between Modern Standard Arabic and various Arabic dialects. The course examines specific aspects of the culture, society, and language of Arabic-speaking nations. S

What research has led to this request?
The course was already taught once on an experimental basis in response to strong demand from students in Intelligence and National Security Studies.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
It will significantly enhance the learning outcomes and employability of students in Intelligence and National Security Studies and will also provide an additional option to students in the LIS major and minor.
What financial costs are associated with this request?
Part-time compensation for one faculty member. For the 2018-19 academic year the course is being taught by an instructor provided by the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program, Selma Oubkkou from Fez, Morocco. Her salary will be $14,000 for the academic year, which includes teaching this class and one other class. This money has already been allocated by the Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts.
