Describe the proposed EL-activities:
When this course is offered as Q, there will be entire class meetings dedicated to field excursions to learn hands-on mixed-methods research approaches. These may be on or off campus. Activities will include approximately 5 hours of forest assessment activities, 5 hours of social research activities, and 5 hours of mixed methods research design activities.
Describe the assignment(s) you may use to assess SLO 1.1:
For each type of forest assessment activity, students will be required to hand in data collection and analysis forms. For each social research activity, students will be required to hand in survey/interviews/focus group data collection and data analysis forms.

For mixed methods research design, students will develop mixed methods research projects.

What research has led to this request?
In other courses that I teach, I briefly survey issues relating to forests and people. Students have on several occasions approached me to learn more about the topic through independent studies and/or internship opportunities.
What impact will this request have on existing academic programs?
This course will expand the Geography offerings in our department.
