Biography

Mariam Dekanozishvili joined Coastal Carolina University’s Department of Political Science as an assistant professor in 2014.

She received her M.A. in European Affairs from Lund University, Sweden and M.A. and Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of South Carolina. Her area of teaching and research is European/EU politics, with a particular focus on integration and policy-making in the EU, and EU energy policy.

Dekanozishvili has extensive professional experience in her field. Before coming to the US, she worked for the Ministry of European Integration of Georgia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

She directs the Model EU teams at Coastal. She has developed and led a short-term study abroad program From Brussels to Paris. The program provides a unique opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience of EU governance through study visits at the EU Headquarters in Brussels, as well as experience European history and culture in the vibrant cities of Bruges and Paris.
