CCU’s Archarios wins national Silver ADDY

June 8, 2016

Archarios, Coastal Carolina University's student art and literary magazine, recently won a silver ADDY for second place in the American Advertising Federation awards (AAF) for the 2015 issue of the magazine.

"We were very fortunate with this issue," said Archarios faculty adviser and CCU graphic design professor Paul Olsen. "It is my understanding that nationwide there were more than 40,000 entries by colleges and universities, so we are very pleased to have been chosen."

Ashley Loper of Burlington, Vt., was the former art director responsible for the winning magazine. She graduated in 2015.

The 2015 issue also won Gold and Best of Show at the local ADDY Awards, held February 2016.

"I am very proud of the students who work so hard every year to make Archarios the success it has become," said Olsen. "These awards are proof that Coastal students are as talented and gifted as any in the country."

The student-produced magazine published its first issue in the fall of 1990. Staff for Archarios sign up for a one-credit course for each semester. Archarios is released each year in the spring on C.I.N.O. Day, CCU's annual carnival named after the school motto, "Coastal Is Number One."

AAF is the largest and most representative competition in the advertising industry. The competition strives to recognize and reward the creativity and excellence in the art of advertising. According to AAF, entries that are considered outstanding and worthy of recognition are awarded an ADDY.

The AAF awards were presented at the national conference on June 7 in Anaheim, Calif.
