Come to Coastals Cabaret performance next week
Coastal Carolina Universitys student theater production of Cabaret opens Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. and runs through Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium.
Performances are at 7:30 nightly from Wednesday through Saturday; matinee shows are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $10 general and free with CCU ID.
The hit 1966 musical was revived on Broadway in 1998, where it ran for 2,300 award-winning performances before closing in January 2004 the second longest running production in Broadway history.
Directed by Greg London, assistant professor of performing arts, the production promises to be a lively one with a content advisory warning: Due to the sexual innuendos of the dialogue, songs and costumes, this show is definitely for adults only.
Presented in a true cabaret-like atmosphere, complete with skimpy showgirl/boy costumes, a female girlie club entertainer in the Weimar Republic era Berlin romances a man while the threat of the Nazis swirls around them. The production is based on the book by Joe Masteroff, the play by John Van Druten, and the stories by Christopher Isherwood, with music by John Kander and lyrics by Fred Ebb.
Starring in the CCU production are: Danny Garrity as the Master of Ceremonies, Sloan Huggins as Sally Bowles, Trey Gerrald as Clifford Bradshaw, Matt James as Herr Schultz, Shannon Cook as Fraulein Schneider, Michael Bratsafolis as Ernst Ludwig, and Danielle Adams as Fraulein Kost.
