Vibrations Dance Company to perform at CCU

The acclaimed African-American dance troupe, Vibrations Dance Company, will perform Thursday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in Coastal Carolina University’s Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Vibrations Dance Company’s wide ranging repertoire includes traditional, contemporary, experimental and avant-garde styles. Their approach encompasses many cultural traditions, including Caribbean, African-American and indigenous African.

The company was founded in Columbia by dance instructor Evie Belton and her business partner T. Michael Wright in 1997. Their purpose was to create a dance collective or ensemble that refelcts the African-American social, cultural and artistic experience.

Belton studied at the Jones Heyward School of Ballet in Washington, D.C., at the famous Dance Theatre of Harlem and at the dance department of Hunter College in New York.

Terrance Henderson, a native of Newberry is the company’s artistic director and principal choreographer.
