Renowned lyric soprano to give recital at Coastal

Soo Hong Kim, a lyric soprano, will perform Friday, Sept. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts at Coastal Carolina University. The event is free and open to the public.

Kim is known for her interpretations of many opera roles including Mimi (“La Bohème”) and Nedda (“Pagliacci”) with such companies as the Dallas Lyric Opera and the Shreveport Opera. Other orchestras she has performed with include the Cleveland Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Symphony Orchestra and the Texas Wind Symphony. She made her New York debut in Mozart’s “Solemn Vespers” at Lincoln Center.

She has received many awards and recognitions including the Mary Wolfman Award. She was a regional winner in the Metropolitan Opera Guild Audition and the overall winner of the Hemphill-Sorantin Competition.

She earned a doctorate of musical arts in vocal performance from the University of North Texas. Kim is an assistant professor of voice and vocal division coordinator at the University of Texas at Arlington.
