CCUs Steve Bailey will perform bass concert at Coastal

Steve Bailey, internationally renowned bassist, will perform new compositions and arrangements from his upcoming CD on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Wheelwright Auditorium at Coastal Carolina University.

The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature new solo bass compositions from Baileys as of yet untitled CD scheduled to be released in the spring of 2006. A couple of his musical students will be featured, as well as percussionist Kurry Seymour of Coastal, and surprise guests.

Bailey is an Artist-in-Residence in Coastals Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. He recently organized the first International Bass Solo Competition held at CCU. He has recorded and performed with such artists as Willie Nelson, Ray Price, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Rippingtons, David Benoit, Johnny Witherspoon and more.

Bass Player Magazine has recognized him twice as runner-up Bass Player of the Year. He is best known for his revolutionary use of artificial harmonics and chords, performed on electric six-string fretless and acoustic bass.

Bailey earned a bachelors degree in studio music and jazz from the University of Miami with additional study at the University of North Texas and is featured on two solo CDs entitled, Dichotomy and Evolution. Bailey was a faculty member at the Bass Institute of Technology for more than 10 years. He is a member of the advisory board and a columnist for Bass Player Magazine. In 1993, he co-founded Bass Extremes, a two-bass group. He is the author of numerous books and videos on bass performance.
