Coastal series continues with poetry reading

Author Denise Duhamel, an assistant professor at Florida International University in Miami, will present a poetry reading on Thursday, March 2 at 4 p.m. as a part of Coastal Carolina University’s “The Words to Say It” series. The free event will be held in the Wall Auditorium on Coastal’s Conway campus.

A reception will follow the event, which is sponsored by the Thomas W. and Robin W. College of Humanities and Fine Arts, the Women’s and Gender Studies Program, the Office of Student Activities and Leadership and The Cypress Inn.

Duhamel is an award-winning author and poet. Her poems have been anthologized in several publications, including four editions of “The Best American Poetry.” Her work has been featured on National Public Radio and the Public Broadcasting Station.

Duhamel has authored eight full-length books, including “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “Kinky,” “Girl Soldier,” “The Woman with Two Vaginas,” “Smile!,” “Two and Two,” “Mille et un sentiments” and “Exquisite Politics” (with Maureen Seaton). She has also released a chapbook and another work, “Queen for a Day,” which includes poems from her previous books.

The Rhode Island native earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Emerson College (Mass.) and a master’s degree in fine arts from Sarah Lawrence College (N.Y.). The Hollywood, Fla., resident is married to poet Nick Carbó.
