Coastal professor to give poetry reading

  Dan Albergotti
Coastal Carolina University professor Dan Albergotti will give a reading on Thursday, April 6 at 4 p.m. in Wall Auditorium. The event is part of "The Words to Say It" series, which brings in visiting writers and occasionally showcases faculty. The reading is free and open to the public.

Albergotti, assistant professor of English and journalism at Coastal, will read poetry from his collection, "Charon's Manifest," which won the 2005 Randall Jarrell/ Harper prints Poetry Competition. Other poetry he will read has appeared in Ascent, Mississippi Review, Poem, Southern Humanities Review and other journals. He is a new member of the Coastal faculty specializing in creative writing and poetry.

A reception will follow the event, and copies of "Charon's Manifest" will be available for purchase and signing.

Albergotti earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Clemson University and a doctorate in English from the University of South Carolina. One of his poems was reprinted in "Best New Poets 2005." His poem "Things to Do in the Belly of the Whale" won the 2005 Oneiros Press Poetry Broadside Contest and will be printed in late 2006. He currently serves as associate poetry editor of StorySouth (www.storysouth.com). He was a featured participant at the recent 17th annual Virginia Festival of the Book.
