Coastal Carolina University will present a percussion concert featuring four different ensembles on Tuesday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.
In its third season, Coastal's Percussion Ensemble promises another tour-de-force performance with steel drums, Japanese Taeko drums, mallet instruments, and all points between representing music from around the world and demonstrating that rhythm is music, and music is universal.
Featured ensembles include the Coastal Taiko group "Strike," the CCU Percussion Ensemble, Catalyst Percussion Group and the CCU "Grand Strand Pans" Steel Band.
The bands are under direction of Kurry Seymour, director of percussion studies and Coastal's assistant band director.
Also performing will be guest artist Tim Peterman with his 35-member Carolina Forest Elementary percussion group.
