Coastal's Symphonic Band hosts spring concert

  CCU's Symphonic Band
Coastal Carolina University's Symphonic Band will present its spring concert on Thursday, April 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Wheelwright Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

The Symphonic Band, which is comprised of nearly 65 Coastal students of all majors, will perform traditional American folk music, standards of the wind band repertoire and new music. The band is led by James Tully, assistant professor and director of bands at Coastal. Featured songs include: "Variants on a Medieval Tune," "Washington Post March," "Colonial Song," "Star Wars," "Fanfare for a Golden Sky" and "Grant Them Eternal Rest," a piece written in honor of the victims of 9-11.

The concert will feature guest conductor Don Wilcox, director of bands emeritus at West Virginia University. Wilcox has served on the board of directors of the John Philip Sousa Foundation and the American Bandmasters Association and is a former president of the American Bandmasters Association. He has served as guest conductor or visiting lecturer at more than three dozen universities, including ones in Europe, Japan, China and Thailand, and maintains an active international schedule as a clinician and conductor.

Tonya Propst, teaching associate of music at Coastal, will be a featured soloist on the French horn playing "Pavane pour une infante defunte" by Maurice Ravel.
