CCU presents faculty French horn recital

Coastal Carolina University will present a faculty French horn recital featuring Tonya Gray Propst, assistant professor of music, on Monday, Nov. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Thomas W. and Robin W. Edwards College of Humanities and Fine Arts. The event is free and open to the public but tickets are required.

The recital will include a discussion of various styles of French horn playing from different time periods. Each style of playing will be accompanied by a demonstration. Guest horn player Steve Skillman, a member of the Long Bay Symphony Orchestra, will perform jazz duets with Propst. They will be accompanied by Mark Bernazzoli on piano.

Propst earned a bachelor's degree in music from Glenville State College in West Virginia, a master's degree in music education and horn performance from Ohio University at Athens, and a doctorate in music education and horn performance from Ball State University. Propst, director of the Summer Arts Music Academy at Coastal, has presented at conventions of the College Music Society and the MENC National Conference. Her articles have appeared in the Journal of Research in Music Education.

Tickets for the performance must be picked up in person from Wheelwright Box Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Tickets will also be available 90 minutes prior to the performance at the Recital Hall.
