Two of Coastal's student publications win national awards

Two Coastal Carolina University student publications won awards at the National College Media Convention in St. Louis recently.

Tempo, the student features magazine, earned second place in Best of Collegiate Design for its table of contents page. The staff members responsible for the Spring 2006 issue included alumnus art director, Doug Greene and editor Kristin Mementowski. Paul Olsen and Nelljean Rice were faculty advisers.

Archarios, a literary and art magazine, earned an honorable mention in literary magazines for the Associated Collegiate Press Best in Show awards. The staff members responsible for the Spring 2006 issue included art director Andrew Bartlett and editor Ashley Batliner, both alumni. Olsen was the adviser.

More than 2,000 students and advisers attended the four-day conference. Coastal students who attended included Caroline Smith, Megan Fisher, Michelle Rogers and Marty Keiser of The Chanticleer newspaper staff. Tempo was represented by Stephanie Hutto and Greg Schultz, and Archarios was represented by Neal Causey and Bess Brown. Faculty advisers Olsen, Linda Hollandsworth and Mona Prufer also attended.
